Abstract

The immunogenicity and Reactogenicity of a yeast-derived- Hepatitis B vaccine were studied in 148 healthy volunteers at a low risk to be infected with hepatitis B virus. They received threes doses of 20 ¥ìg HBsAg of "Engerix-B" manufactured by Dong-Shin at intervals of one month (Schedule 0. 1. 2 months). One month after 3rd vaccination and 5th month after first vaccination, serum were collected for anti-HBs test. Maximum anti-HBs titer were reached at five months after the first vaccination. The geometric mean titer were 364 mlU/ml, 346 mIU/ml in adult group and were 282 mIU/ml, 391 mIU/ml in children group respectively. During five months observation period, none of the vaccinees become HBsAg positive. Results indicated that the yeast-derived Hepatitis B vaccine was well tolerated and immunogenic. Reactogenicity was mild in severity and low in incidence.
